Trump pushes SAVE Act at SOTU amid debate over amending filibuster

Fox News chief congressional correspondent Chad Pergram reports on the president's remarks on the SAVE Act and its future in the Senate.

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The most important thing to know about this week’s primary results in Texas is that nearly 60% of Republican voters told sitting Sen. John Cornyn that they do not want him returning to Washington, and it will take more than an endorsement from President Donald Trump to change that.

On Thursday, Cornyn’s opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, made an interesting offer to avoid an ugly and costly runoff election in May. Put simply, if the Senate approves the Save America Act, requiring voter ID and proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, then Paxton will drop out.

It is an elegant solution that had been suggested by some commentators, including myself, once it became clear that neither Cornyn nor Paxton had cleared the 50% hurdle to avoid a runoff, and it would save Trump from having to swoop in and make an endorsement.

Cornyn and Paxton split

The president said Friday that he would make a decision on whom to endorse "fairly shortly," but added that he wants "the full and complete Save America Act" passed, the first time he explicitly connected the two.

THUNE GUARANTEES VOTER ID BILL TO HIT THE SENATE DESPITE SCHUMER, DEM OPPOSITION: 'WE WILL HAVE A VOTE'

The offer to Senate GOP leadership, desperate to hang on to their old buddy, seems to be, "You pass the Save America Act, and I’ll save John Cornyn." And even Paxton is on board.

This solution is a perfect one, specifically because the Save America Act is a microcosm of everything that frustrated GOP voters hate about the Republican establishment that runs the Senate. It polls at 70-80% approval, and yet it can’t get passed.

Why did 60% of Republicans send this stinging message to Cornyn and the GOP on Tuesday? Because, for all their big talk, men like Majority Leader John Thune and his inner circle of exceedingly careful lawmakers can’t get anything done, even when it's something as popular as Santa Claus.

KEN PAXTON BELIEVES HE'LL CRUSH 'FAKE JOHN CORNYN' EVEN WITHOUT A TRUMP ENDORSEMENT

Tellingly, over the weekend leading up to Tuesday’s election in the Lone Star State, the most prominent ads on TV were not for any particular candidate but rather a pro-Save America Act spot that broke down exactly how senators, like Cornyn, could vote to protect U.S. elections.

I heard about the issue directly from voters, including one man from El Paso who told me, "If they can’t pass things that 80% of us want, then what is the point of all this?"

American tennis star Danielle Collins caused a stir over the weekend after she claimed that a French player sent flirty messages to her on social media.

Collins’ comments came off the court, as she appeared as a broadcaster for the Tennis Channel on Sunday. French player Corentin Moutet was allegedly shouting at Collins while he was warming up for his Miami Open match.

"I said to him, if you’re going to be flirting with me like that, you’re gonna have to get a bigger serve," she said. "Some people think it comes down to height. Some people think it comes down to personality but really what it comes down to is big forehands and big serves.

"It was kind of funny, too, because he unfollowed me after my viral dating profile when I said I wasn’t interested in the short kings. Come on people, you have to understand that I’m 5 (foot) 10 (inches), and for me, it’s fair. It’s just a preference. Nothing against the short kings, but he was upset about that. He messaged me, then unfollowed me. Then, he slid back into the DMs last night, asking me if I saw his match and all the big serves he was hitting yesterday. … He did win, but …"

Collins, 32, said she didn’t think he had a "chance" with her, yet adding that Moutet would have to "bring a lot to the table."

"How can I unfollow you when I never followed you," he wrote in response on X. "@TennisChannel how can you let someone say BS like this on tv. You followed me . You asked me for mixed dubs. And I’ve never even followed you.

"You ready to say anything so people talks about you. You should learn how to love yourself so you won’t have to do stupid things for people loves. @TennisChannel good sport journalist."

Collins is the No. 99-ranked women’s tennis player in the world after reaching as high as No. 7 in 2022. She didn’t play in the 2026 Australian Open.

Golf great John Daly shared a hilarious moment that may have been more serious after watching a video he posted on social media, calling himself a "jacka--" in the process.

Daly was in desert terrain at the La Paloma Country Club for the Cologuard Classic, when he was trying to hit a shot onto a green when he lost his footing.

As he tried to gain traction in the sand, Daly’s feet fell from under him, and he slid down a long desert hill. Multiple people got involved, voluntarily jumping down the hill to see if Daly was all right.

Daly left unscathed, but he did enjoy putting the theme music to the "Jackass" franchise over the video to share to the masses.

"Bellyfloppin’ in the desert," Daly captioned the video, while shouting out his caddie, Joel Cooley, who sprang to action to see if his partner was doing fine at the bottom of the hill.

"On today’s episode of ‘jacka**’" was also seen on top of the video.

While he doesn’t usually show off his bellyflopping, Daly remains a key figure in golf.

He spends most of his time on the course for the Champions Tour, which is former PGA Tour players 50 years and older. His most recent round came on Sunday, where he finished tied for 29th with a 6-under tournament in the Cologuard Classic.

Daly was just named the 2026 Ambassador of Golf Award honoree ahead of the Kaulig Companies Championship at the signature Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The award recognizes those making an impact on the course as well as in their communities off the course.

"I’ve always loved this game and what it’s given me," he said in a press release for the award. "Golf has taken me places I never imagined and introduced me to incredible people along the way. To be recognized with the Ambassador of Golf Award is truly an honor, and I’m proud to support the meaningful work being done here in Northeast Ohio."

Daly’s impact on the sport is quite iconic, whether it’s his monstrous drives from the tee box, winning the 1991 PGA Championship as the ninth alternate in the field, or taking home The Open Championship in 1995 at St. Andrews, forever marking himself as a multi-time major winner.

His larger-than-life personality has always been on display, even today in silly moments like these on and off the course.
